Meeting Me
I love my work, it’s a privilege to support people to make positive changes in their lives as they find ways to heal.
I work from my office overlooked by a Scots’ pine wood near Alves, on the Moray coast of Scotland. I work either face to face or online. I work with adults, adolescents, children (only face to face) and parents. I can offer 1-1 or group work for parents where I combine teaching therapy skills and therapeutic support to help heal parent child relationships.
I studied English at university where I discovered theories of mind including Jungian theory. I then trained in London as a Sesame dramatherapist where I deepened my Jungian study through personal Jungian analysis and my dramatherapy training. I also trained as a Creative Arts Supervisor, and I have worked with other therapists or caring professionals such as teachers, to help them understand how they work. Sesame dramatherapy (drama and movement therapy) is psychodynamic and based on a Jungian way of working, with the focus being on an exploration of inner symbolic material via talking, imagination and embodiment. Along with providing an empathic, non-judgemental relationship, I offer these powerful resources that can promote healing and change.
I often explain the pathway of therapy work through the metaphor of walking up a hill together. On first approach we can see the hill ahead but we need to “walk in” through the foothills first. This initial phase is where I gather information, we build trust and I gain an understanding of what needs to be healed. We then proceed up the hill, this is the work of getting to know “the hill” or the ways you protect your wounds and the wounds themselves.
I accompany you with compassion and support up to the top and over to the other side. We go at your pace. This is the middle piece of work. We then, still together, arrive at the foothills on the other side of the hill. These second foothills represent the “walk out” where we focus on an integration and celebration of the work you have done. Just as one will look back often in awe at a hill just walked, so a commitment to the ending of our sessions is an invaluable process to contributing to positive and long lasting change.
If you chose to work with me, you become more aware of your behaviours and then you become freer to choose how to respond. What a humbling gift it is to witness the courage and love that emerges when people work to repair and heal their inner relationships to themselves as well as their relationships to the outside world.
